CCJ Loan
What are County Court Judgements?
County court judgements are usually issued by the courts on behalf of a
person or company that you owe money to and are unable to repay. Thousands of CCJ’s are issued each year with the intention of resolving
the debts rather than punishing the debtor.
Where can I go for help and advice?
If you receive a CCJ the first thing to check is that the details are correct
-
for example, the judgement amount and the parties concerned. Consider urgently
contacting your local Citizens' Advice Bureau for help or visit their website
here to find your nearest branch.
How do CCJ's affect my credit rating?
Most lenders employ credit referencing agencies who record registered CCJ’s.
This means if the court has found against you and you are satisfied with
the judgement, you will be required to pay the specified amount determined
by the court within 28 days of the judgement date. Non compliance will result in the CCJ
being registered with the Register of County Court Judgements. Some loan
providers have been known to decline applications for either unsecured or secured loans on the basis that the CCJ was not
paid. It is worth noting however, that if you pay the CCJ amount after 28
days, then you can apply for the registry entry to be amended to show that
you have paid off the debt. Regardless of whether a CCJ has been paid or
not it will remain on your file 6 years.
To find out if a CCJ has been registered against you, contact the Registry
